Evaluation of Connective Tissue Graft and Collagen Matrix used in Conjunction with Modified Tunnel Technique in Multiple Class I and Class II Maxillary Gingival Recession: A Randomized Single Blinded study

AIM OF THE STUDY: Aim of the study is to compare and evaluate the clinical outcomes of root coverage done using modified tunnel technique with collagen membrane on one side and connective tissue graft on another side in treatment of bilateral multiple Miller’s class I and class II maxillary gingival recession. MATERIALS AND METHOD: The study population comprised of 15 patients with bilateral sites having Miller’s class I and class II gingival recession requiring periodontal therapy who reported to the Department of Periodontology, Chettinad Dental College & Research Institute, Kelambakkam. All the patients were healthy. The written informed consent was obtained from all patients. 15 patients with multiple bilateral Miller’s class I and class II recession sites were randomly allocated into two groups by sealed envelope method. The control group comprised of 30 sites of 15 patients receiving subepithelial connective tissue graft with modified tunnel technique. The test group comprised of 30 sites of 15 patients receiving collagen membrane treated with modified tunnel technique. RESULTS: A statistically significant reduction was observed in clinical parameters between control and test group at baseline, 3 months and 6 months post operatively in the intragroup comparison. Between the groups, the clinical parameters was no statistically significant difference. CONCLUSION: In this study, there was no significant difference between the modified tunnel technique with connective tissue graft and collagen membrane with clinically satisfactory outcomes
