Evaluation of Facial Attractiveness in Non Orthodontically Treated Population using Three Dimensional Dynamic Smile Recordings: An In Vivo study

AIM OF THE STUDY: The main aim of my study is to evaluate the facial attractiveness in Non Orthodontically treated south Indian population using three- dimensional dynamic smile video recordings to quantify the smile parameters in different growth patterns. MATERIALS AND METHODOLOGY: A total of 20 samples were included in the study and divided equally into 2 groups based on growth pattern; following which objective assessments were done. All standardization procedures were carried out and a video of 10 seconds duration was recorded with two cameras, placed at right angles to each other, covering both the views at the same time. The best frame depicting unstrained posed smile was selected for both the views and transferred to Adobe Photoshop CS2015 software and quantification was done for objective assessments RESULTS: The data obtained was subjected to statistical analysis. The data recorded were transferred and tabulated to the computer - Windows Microsoft Excel (2007) - for the purpose of the data analysis. Statistical Package of Social Science (SPSS Version 25; IBM Chicago Inc., USA) was used for statistical analysis. The total data was subdivided and distributed meaningfully and presented as individual tables along with graphs. The significance level was fixed to be p< 0.05 for the analysis. CONCLUSION: 1. Horizontal growers had higher mean maximum incisor exposure and interlabial gap than vertical growers. Vertical growers had a higher mean buccal corridor, upper and lower vertical lip thickness and lower lip to maxillary incisor distance than horizontal growers. These differences were however not statistically significant 2. Variables such as dental midline, smile arc and smile line did not show significant variations between horizontal and vertical growers. 3. The number of teeth visible during smile also did not vary between groups
