Relaciones sociales y protección social de personas migrantes en Euskadi desde un enfoque narrativo

Social welfare has long been considered something that states and their institutions provide to their citizens. On the other hand, the latest data indicate that 3.5% of the world's population lives in a country in which they were not born (UN, 2019). In this context, what place do the social relationships of migrants occupy in their well-being and what relationship do these interactions have with access to different resources? This article analyzes the narratives around the social well-being of Latin American migrants residing in the Basque Country and their relationship with the social relationships they use. It is pointed out that lasting friendships, certain transcendental contacts and the existence of a support network prior to arrival in the new society are fundamental in the integration process and could play a role in the social and emotional well-being of migrants. The narratives are discussed and the importance of these elements in the “social” sphere is analyzed. In this way, we intend to approach the process of integration of migrants by questioning the argument that exclusively relationships with people from the majority society promote integration and protection.El bienestar social se ha considerado durante mucho tiempo algo que los Estados y sus instituciones brindan a sus ciudadanos. Por otro lado, los últimos datos señalan que el 3,5% de la población mundial vive en un país en el que no ha nacido. En ese contexto, ¿qué lugar ocupan las relaciones sociales de las personas migrantes en su bienestar y qué relación tienen esas interacciones con el acceso a distintos recursos? Este artículo analiza narrativas en torno al bienestar social de las personas migrantes latinoamericanas que residen en Euskadi y su relación con las relaciones sociales que utilizan. Se señala que amistades duraderas, contactos trascendentales y la existencia de una red de apoyo previa a la llegada a la nueva sociedad son fundamentales en el proceso de integración y podrían jugar un papel en el bienestar socioemocional de los/as migrantes. Se discuten las narrativas y se analiza la importancia de estos elementos en la esfera “social”. De este modo, pretendemos acercarnos al proceso de integración de los/as migrantes cuestionando el argumento que exclusivamente las relaciones con personas de la sociedad mayoritaria promueven la integración y la protección
