In this article, I present a socio-historical analysis about some characteristics of school exclusion that was outlined in Brazil throughout the 20th century, amid an expressive process of increasing the population’s access to school. The approach articulates documentary historical analysis with contributions from the theory of Pierre Bourdieu, around the notions of cultural capital and school reproduction, and with the propositions of Walter D. Mignolo that allow to focus the relations between local histories and the coloniality of power.
