Relato de profissionais da saúde sobre tentativa de suicídio no município de Maracanaú, Ceará, Brasil

The suicide attempt must be investigated concerning than biological aspects as concerning its lifes´s history and cultural aspects. In the long run, the suicidal behavior has been seen in many ways, depending on the specific time in history. Nowadays, there are many researches related to the suicidal behavior, but it is not known for sure if the individuals who attempt to suicide are really willing to die. Based on a statistic research taken by the Defesa Social de Maracanaú, city of Fortaleza, capital of Ceará State, a qualitative survey took place based on a semi-structured interview with the intention of knowing the reports from the health professionals about the high rates of suicide and suicide attempts in the referred city. The interviews were addressed to eight health professionals who are in contact with youngsters who have attempted suicide in this particular city. The health professionals´ reports were analysed based on theoretical references of Behavior Analysis about verbal report, taking into consideration that the fact of verbal report is considered a verbal behavior and, therefore, to be controlled by the contingences of reinforcement like any other operating behavior. As the results, it was possible to observe that all the professionals linked the suicide attempts to social-economic elements and theses professionals assured that they believe these youngsters didn´t have the intention of dying, but to obtain social assistance as affection and attention or to avoid aversive situations. In the presence of the similarities in the health professionals´ verbal reports, it could be assumed that the answers given to the questionaries are under the control of what is reinforced by the verbal community which these individuals belong to. Contingences Analysis.A tentativa de suicídio deve ser investigada tanto em seus aspectos biológicos como na história de vida da pessoa e nos aspectos culturais. Ao longo dos tempos o comportamento suicida foi visto das mais variadas maneiras, dependendo do tempo histórico. Na atualidade existem vários estudos relacionados ao comportamento suicida, mas não se sabe ao certo se os indivíduos que tentam suicídio querem de fato morrer. Com base em uma pesquisa estatística realizada pela Defesa Social de Maracanaú, cidade metropolitana de Fortaleza - capital do Ceará, foi feita essa pesquisa qualitativa através de entrevista estruturada a fim de saber o que relatam os profissionais da saúde sobre o alto índice de suicídio e tentativa de suicídio nessa cidade. As entrevistas foram feitas com oito profissionais da saúde que tiveram contato com jovens que tentam suicídio nessa cidade. Os relatos dos profissionais de saúde foram analisados a partir dos referenciais teóricos da Análise do Comportamento sobre relato verbal, levando em consideração o fato de relato verbal ser comportamento verbal e, portanto, ser controlado pelas contingências de reforçamento, assim como qualquer outro comportamento operante. Nos resultados foi possível observar que todos os profissionais relacionaram as tentativas de suicídio a fatores socioeconômicos e afirmaram acreditar que os jovens não tinham a intenção de morrer, mas de receber reforço social, como afeto e atenção, ou de esquivar-se de situações aversivas. Diante das semelhanças nos relatos verbais dos profissionais de saúde foi levantada a hipótese de que as respostas dadas aos questionamentos estão sob o controle do que é reforçado pela comunidade verbal à qual eles pertencem.
