Finding aid: MS 540 James and Jean Genasci Papers

The James and Jean Genasci papers contains correspondence, printed materials, manuscripts, news articles, slides, photographs, scrapbooks, memorabilia, and audio tapes created and/or collected by James and/or Jean Genasci. Materials include class materials from the time that they were students at Springfield College (1945-1955). These include a number of index cards on various dance and physical education classes and some papers and a Masters thesis written by Jean Genasci. There are two scrapbooks in the collection, including “Equality for Gays at Springfield College, 1987-1994” and another on Gay Games III. Important manuscripts include three written by Pat Griffin and James Genasci containing workshops on homophobia in the fields of physical education, sport and dance done for AAHPERD (American Association Health Physical Education Recreation and Dance). There are also 47 cassette tapes that contain various lectures, comedy clips, and seminars on Sport and physical education as well as reel-to-reel tapes of talks given under the title of “Newsfronts in Health, Physical Education & Recreation.” Finally, there is material on Dr. Thomas Waddell, including the 1959 SC yearbook, SC Gymnastics exhibition programs (1957-1959) and photographs of the SC Gymnastics team.For biography of Jean M.
