The Short and Long-Term Effects of a Tailored Information Package on the Self-Efficacy of Recently Discharged Stroke Patients

A fundamental objective of every health care worker is to provide economical and long-lasting care to recently discharged patients as they transition back to their standard life. This review evaluates whether an affordable, tailored education package can increase self-efficacy in stroke patients that have been discharged recently through comparing scores on a 10-point Likert scale between the intervention and control group, as well as between an initial and a follow up assessment for the intervention group. It was found that the tailored information package significantly increased the short-term self-efficacy in recently discharged stroke patients with regards to coping with stroke, however it failed to do so in other aspects of self-efficacy, hence health care professionals can not solely rely on tailored information packages to improve their patients’ health in the short-term. Nevertheless, the study displays that despite failing at increasing the overall patients’ health outcome, the tailored information package helps patients in an aspect of self-efficacy. Thus, there is potential for health care professionals to improve their recently discharged patients’ health if the appropriate delivery method and content is used
