Techniques developed for recursive digital filters design in the frequency domain are mainly based on the magnitude frequency response specification. It is well known that the phase part is often far from satisfactory. However, digital filters used in many industrial and medical fields do need the phase to be linear. This thesis based on Laguerre-Wiener's theory established a new method for linear phase recursive filters design. Instead of using magnitude response, we start with the real part response. Applying Fourier theory and bilinear transformation, we obtain Laguerre coefficients. The continued fraction technique is then used to synthesize low order recursive filters.
