Four integral transforms of the Hankel type and their respective inverses are defined. It is shown that these transforms are convenient in solving second order differential equations of the Bessel type for infinite regions bounded internally by a circular cylinder. The transforms are applied to the solution of problems in heat conduction involving the infinite plate and the semi-infinite solid both with a transverse cylindrical hole. Numerical results are obtained for the transient and the steady-state cases in the infinite plate with specific boundary conditions. A listing of the statements of the computer program used is included at the end of the thesis.Mechanical Engineering, Department o
