Influence of bandwidth restriction on the signal-to-noise performance of a modulated PCM/NRZ signal

A PCM/HRZ (pulse code modulation, non-return-to-zero)/All communication system is concerned primarily with the transmission and detection of amplitude modulated binary coded sequences of pulses in a Gaussian channel. The performance of such a system can usually be expressed by the probability of detection errors, which is directly related to the signal- to-noise ratio and the transmission bandwidth. For a practical system, narrow bandwidth could cause distortions in the signal fidelity, and a wide bandwidth would mean more channel noise to the receiver. In this thesis, a mathematical analysis of a PCU/NRZ/AM digital communication system is presented, and the relationship among transmission bandwidth, signal-to-noise ratio, and bit-error probability is investigated. Also, physically, a simulated communication system is developed and constructed. The experimental results are compared with the theoretical results obtained from cited references.
