This research covers an experimental study of the scattering of underwater acoustic waves in a laboratory simulated ocean water/air interface. The contributing factors for the distortion and attenuation of a known signal as- a function of the randomly rough interface were studied. Two different effects that contribute to the changes in the original signal were due to these components of interface: the random sea surface and bubble layer, and similarly, the ocean bottom reverberation was studied. The spatial distribution and size of the scatterers and the rate at which the total reflecting power of these scatterers varies is analyzed at different frequencies from 970 khz to 1030 khz.
