Existing annual global nighttime lights time series (2012-2020) based on data collected by the NASA/NOAA Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) was used to identify temporal and spatial trends: input VIIRS data were used to create a multidimensional dataset, analysed by means of the creation of temporal trends and profiles. Results were correlated with human activities in different domains: light pollution, gas flaring extraction and armed conflicts, considered among the domains with higher social impact. The proposed approach seems capable of generating relevant insight, comparable with approaches based on daily or monthly dataset
