Evaluation of Breast Self-examination training on Turkish women living in Northwestern Turkey: Breast Self-examination Training

Introduction.This study aims to evaluate given BSE training on Turkish women who live in Northwestern part of Turkey Participants and methods. The sample comprised 119 women, who agreed to take part in the study and participated to all the three sessions of the BSE training. Data was collected by three questionnaires and the BSE Training Skills Evaluation Form. Results.81.5% of the women did not perform BSE regularly. Rate of correct responses about knowledge on BC and diagnosis ranged between 5.9% and 79.8% whereas the rate of correct responses about knowledge on BSE skills ranged between 18.5% and 58.8%. Knowledge of women on breast cancer and diagnosis before the BSE training improved post intervention and retest after one and three months (p=.000). BSE training skills of the women post intervention were higher than the scores obtained one and three months after the training (p=.011). Conclusions. It seems that BSE training is beneficial in women. But, regardless of the education level, women in the society should participate to similar training programs and turn regular BSE practice into a health behavior to maintain early diagnosis and prevention of cancer
