Packing is the most important of the factors which contribute towards fruit presentation. It is the skilled job which is the culmination of the grower\u27s efforts to grow and harvest his fruit and prepare it for market. The costs of growing and harvesting the fruit and the purchase of packing materials and cases, have already been incurred before the fruit is packed. The recoupment of these costs, together with further charges for transport and marketing, plus a satisfactory profit margin depends largely upon the skill with which the fruit is packed. To facilitate operations, standard packs have been designed to assist the grower in maintaining uniformity of presentation and by so doing promote the confidence of the buyer and ultimately the consumer
