IWSD, The Italian Web Sinkhole Database was born from RomaTRE University Lagaa (Laboratory of Applied Environmental Geology) research activity regarding several projects (“Latium Region Sinkhole Project" 2002, and "INGV-DPC V5 Project - Diffuse Degassing in Italy”) and from current monitoring activities of hydrogeological parameters in sinkhole prone areas. Actually the database includes phenomena falling mainly in Latium Region (Central Italy). The final objective is collecting more information related to all the Italian phenomena.
