dissertationThis study focuses on the narrative of women writers from the Northern Mexican border, who started publishing at the end of the twentieth century. I specifically analyze the anthology of short stories En la tarima, and the novel Como cashora al sol by Rosina Conde; and the anthology of short stories Bajo el puente: Relatos desde la frontera, and the novel Árboles o apuntes de viaje by Rosario Sanmiguel. Both authors position themselves as writers of feminist texts that defy the literary canons of both sides of the border. Their writing reconfigures the representation of women as a literary character within Mexican literature, as well as the border, beyond its geopolitical aspect of migration. The borderland and the biborderland are highlighted as unique spaces and concepts based on contemporary social, economic, political and cultural interactions. The protagonists of Conde and Sanmiguel confront ‘masculine domination', and ‘disidentify' themselves from patriarchal discourse, and reconfigure their identities as ‘bodies that matter' outside from heteronormative regulations
