Care work has been considered a socially devalued women´s activity, which remains invisible, and in addition, has social, physical, and psychological implications. In 2019, within the framework of the Study Project focused on the psychosocial components in the quality of life of the elderly population, by the Institute of Social Studies in Population (IDESPO) of the National University of Costa Rica, a study called "Main problems of informal caregivers of the elderly with dependency: the cases of Heredia and Pérez Zeledón" was carried out.
