Beyond the canonical duplex, there are now compelling evidences that suggest that nucleic acids can form secondary structures such as G-quadruplex (G4). G4 can arise through non-canonical nucleobase interactions within G-rich DNA and RNA sequences. Those structures, formed in key regulatory regions of genomes and transcriptomes, are involved in many biological processes but also in the molecular mechanisms of several diseases.
