Musique et lien(s) : l’exemple des hymnes delphiques à Apollon (128-127 av. J.C.)

International audienceIn order to explore the different ways of creating links in the ancient musical practices, I consider the example of two hymns, which were performed in Delphi by Athenians artists in 128-127 BCE. This is first a social link, since the hymns were sung by a corporation of musicians, who are used to working together and who may have familial relationships. This is also a political link between the city-states of Athens and Delphi, since the artists are Athenian citizens who display their power in the sanctuary: at that time, there are strong political issues, especially involving Rome. Finally, it is a religious link, as far as the hymns are dedicated to Apollo; the first hymn expresses clearly the relation of do ut des between mortals and immortals, which is characterized here by the ascent of incense and sounds up to the ouranian gods.Afin d’explorer les différentes modalités du lien qui se manifestent dans les pratiques musicales antiques, je prendrai l’exemple de deux hymnes interprétés à Delphes par des artistes athéniens en 128-127 av. J-C. C’est tout d’abord un lien social, puisque les hymnes ont été exécutés par une corporation de musiciens, qui ont l’habitude de travailler ensemble et qui pour certains ont même des liens familiaux. C’est ensuite un lien politique entre les cités d’Athènes et de Delphes, puisque ce sont des citoyens athéniens qui font une démonstration de force dans le sanctuaire, car il y a alors des enjeux de pouvoir à Delphes, y compris avec Rome. C’est enfin un lien cultuel, puisque les hymnes sont des offrandes à Apollon, et le premier hymne notamment évoque cette relation du do ut des qui se matérialise par la montée de l’encens et des sons vers les dieux ouraniens
