In contemporary sociological and political debate there is a wide consent in recognizing the growing role of China within the biggest global powers. This renewed centrality induce to reflect on historical and social processes that have shaped the chinese way to modernization. The analytical path here proposed moves from the weberian theory of modernization and from some contemporary analysis that have underlined its main heuristic limits.
