The Author presents the research activities developed by the “La Sapienza” University, Dept. Itaca together to the Ministero dei Beni Culturali e Ambientali “Comitato Rischio Sismico” during the last ten years on the theme of the traditional construction practices to preserve buildings from seismic damages. The product of the research activities consists in a selection of structural observations and drawings of typical architectonic elements developed in Umbria, Lazio, Abruzzo, Irpinia. Pugliano explains the criteria for the choice of the most appropriate anti-seismic building practices by means of ancient references like pre-modern building treatises also
