Polycrystalline La doped multiferroic BiFeO3 samples are studied with x-ray diffraction, x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAFS) and magnetization measurements. 20% La doped BFO exhibits better magnetic properties and from XAFS it is observed that the solubility limit of La into BFO is around 20%
