This research aims to show the challenging of gender stereotypes by looking at the gender performativity of Adelina Amouteru from The Rose Society novel by Marie Lu. To present the data, the writer used a qualitative descriptive method and Judith Butler's theory of gender performativity. The research finds that Adelina Amouteru exhibits three kinds of gender performativity that challenge gender stereotypes: masculine performativity, romantic performativity, and drag performance. First, she defies a patriarchal society by engaging in masculine performativity. Second, her romantic performativity can be interpreted as escapism rather than conforming heteronormativity, Adelina's lack of romantic endings defies gender stereotypes and the notion ...
