An analysis of the non-observance of leech and grice maxims and its implicature in bridesmaids movie

This research is aimed to find out the implicature of the non-observance of Cooperative Principles and Politeness Principles. The violation of maxims on each principle results implicature that implied through the conversation. The data are collected from the transcription of Bridesmaids movie written by Annie Mumolo and Kristen Wiig. The methodology used in this research is qualitative method and also applied for this research Context theory, Cooperative Principles, Politeness Principles, and Conversational Implicature as the main theories. As the findings, it is found that the most common type of non-observance cooperative maxims appeared is flouting manner maxim while the politeness ones is violating sympathy maxim. The implicatures shown by the characters in the research is due to the different background knowledge among the characters and the social distance among them.
