Two cases of listeriosis in patients submitted to matched unrelated donor bone marrow transplantation are reported. The patients developed listerial septicemia and listerial septicemia with meningitis and encephalitis 39 and 29 days after transplantation, respectively. Including the present two cases, 19 Listeria monocytogenes infections in related and unrelated donor allogeneic bone marrow transplant recipients have been reported to date. Infection occurred earlier in unrelated donor transplant recipients.
