ABSTRACT Dendritic cells (DC) are professional antigen presenting cells that play a central role in the induction and regulation of immune response towards microbes. In the present study, the capacity of monocytes isolated from HIV+ Caucasian and African patients to differentiate into fully mature DC (MoDC) was evaluated. Moreover the ability of MoDC to induce an HIV specific immune response was investigated. We show that monocytes isolated from HIV infected patients at different stage of the disease are able to differentiate into MoDC in the presence of GM-CSF and IL-4.
