The temp.-programmed desorption of carbon oxides from partially oxidized carbon black has been performed to study the uncatalyzed and catalyzed carbon-O reactions (P. Walker, Jr., et al., 1991). The TPD data are elaborated to obtain the distribution function of the desorption energies of carbon-O surface complexes. The catalyzed oxidn. of carbon black was carried out in the presence of a K-Cu-V catalyst which substantially decreases the temps. of carbon black burn-off. TPD measurements of carbon oxides and elaborations of the results show that the presence of catalyst noticeably increases the no. of surface complexes, giving rise to gaseous CO2, and dramatically modifying the desorption energy distribution functions of carbon-O surface c...
