Between 1991 and 2002, the social composition of Dublin's city centre underwent a dramatic transformation due to redevelopment and gentrification processes. As a result of the influx of dual-income couples and the partial expulsion of poor individuals and families, the social composition of the city centre was transformed, raising a number of questions regarding the social articulation of affluence and disadvantage within the Dublin area. In this chapter, I outline a new approach to the study of disadvantage and social segregation which relies on confirmatory statistical modelling techniques.
