Risk assessment of solid waste landfill presents some difficulties related both to the application of risk valuation steps and the identification of the risk assessment objective. These problems exist because, typically, the risk assessment procedure and its evolution have been conducted with regard to typical industrial contaminated sites. The paper, therefore, proposes a specific methodology for the application of risk assessment to solid waste landfill. Moreover, it investigates new alternative aims for the risk assessment related to the specific characteristics of solid waste landfill (SWL).
