The impact of the great economic crisis on industrial production in Czechoslovakia

The thesis deal the impact of the great economic crisis on the industrial production of Czechoslovakia. The main goal of the thesis is to analyze the deep decline of industrial production, which didn´t return to the pre-crisis level even by 1937. The thesis focuses more closely on the comparison of the impacts on light and heavy industry, where especially light industry, which is dependent on foreign trade, was affected more significantly and its economic recovery was more moderate than in heavy industry. Individual parts of the thesis are divided to the following topics. The introduction of the theoretical part is devoted to the issue of business cycles and the differencess between cyclical and structural fluctuations. The second chapter deals the great economic crisis, its creation and a comparison of different views on the cause of the crisis. This part also solve the crisis in the USA, where it manifested itself first and very noticeably. The third chapter discusses the development of the economy in times of crisis in selected European countries. The main of the theoretical part is presented in the fourth chapter, which first time analyzes the default economic conditions of Czechoslovakia at the time of its foundation and then describes the development of the Czechoslovak economy in the 20s of the 20th century and focuses in detail on the development and parameters of industry and foreign trade. The fifth chapter provides an overview of the overall development of the Czechoslovak economy during the crisis and put the context for the following chapters. The sixth chapter is the most important part of the paper. It analyzes the development in industrial production with an emphasis on differences in the development of light and heavy industry. It tries to record what influence quantitative and qualitative changes in foreign trade and state economic policy had on the development of industrial production. The seven chapter discusses the varios impact of the crisis on the Czechoslovak regions and also focus on the differences between the Czech lands, Slovakia and Subcarpathian Russia. The last, eighth chapter give the development of the Czechoslovak industry to the context of the industrial development of other, especially European, countries. The initial goal of the work is to introduce the reader with the described issue in full. I see the author's greatest contribution in the interpretation of a wide spectrum of data and in the inclusion of a wide range of phenomena that had an impact on industrial production, especially the detailed processing of foreign trade, whose decline was one of the main causes of the decline in industrial production. The author's effort differentiate the natural development in industrial production that was started in the 1920s from the effects of the great economic crisis is also interesting.Práce pojednává o vlivu velké hospodářské krize na průmyslovou výrobu Československa. Hlavním cílem práce je analyzovat hluboký propad průmyslové výroby, která se ani k roku 1937 nevrátila na předkrizovou úroveň. Blíže se práce zaměřuje na porovnání dopadů na lehký a těžký průmysl, kdy zejména lehký průmysl, závislý na zahraničním odbytu, byl postižen citelněji a jeho hospodářské oživení bylo mírnější než v těžkém průmyslu. Jednotlivé části práce se věnují následujícím tématům. Úvod teoretické části se věnuje uvedení do problematiky hospodářských cyklů a rozlišení cyklických a strukturálních výkyvů. Druhá kapitola se již zaobírá přímo velkou hospodářskou krizí, jejím vznikem a komparaci různých pohledů na příčinu krize. Také se věnuje průběhu krize v USA, kde se projevila jako první a velmi citelně. Třetí kapitola pojednává o vývoji hospodářství v časech krize ve vybraných evropských státech. Meritum teoretické části představuje čtvrtá kapitol, která nejprve rozebírá výchozí hospodářské podmínky Československa při jeho vzniku a následně popisuje vývoj československého hospodářství v 20. letech 20. století s detailnějším zaměřením na vývoj a parametry průmyslu a zahraničního obchodu. Pátá kapitola podává přehled o celkovém vývoji československého hospodářství v časech velké hospodářské krize a vytváří kontext následujících kapitol. Šestá kapitola je nejstěžejnější částí práce. Analyzuje vývoj v průmyslové výrobě s důrazem na odlišnosti ve vývoji lehkého a těžkého průmyslu. Snaží se zachytit jaký vliv měly kvantitativní a kvalitativní změny v zahraničním obchodě a státní hospodářské politiky na vývoj průmyslové výroby. V sedmé kapitole je rozebírán různý dopad krize na československé regiony se zaměřením na rozdíly mezi českými zeměmi, Slovenskem a Podkarpatskou rusí. Poslední osmá kapitola zasazuje vývoj v československém průmyslu do kontextu průmyslového vývoje dalších zejména evropských států. Základním cílem práce je seznámit čtenáře s popisovanou problematikou v plné šíři. Největší autorův přínos spatřuji v interpretaci rozsáhlého spektra dat a v zahrnutí široké škály jevů, jež měly nebo mohly mít vliv na průmyslovou výrobu, zejména pak detailní rozpracování zahraničního obchodu, jehož propad představoval jednu z hlavních příčin propadu průmyslové výroby. Zajímavá je i snaha autora odlišit přirozený vývoj v průmyslové výrobě jenž byl nastartován v 20. letech 20. století od dopadů velké hospodářské krize
