Rationale. Some subgroups of interstitial lung diseases, namely desquamative interstitial pneumonia (DIP), respiratory bronchiolitis-associated interstitial pneumonia (RB-ILD), and pulmonary Langerhans cell histiocytosis, are caused by cigarette smoke (CS) in susceptible individuals.
