The working hypothesis that lung collagen breakdown products derived from elastase digestion (CDP) up-regulates lung collagen mass is actively pursued in our labaratory. The data reported demonstrate that CDP can stimulate "in vivo" lung collagen synthesis and deposition in alveolar septa. This effect is dose-related and specific to the lung alone
