The combination of photosensitized production of singlet oxygen (1O2) and solar energy is gaining increasing interest, as disinfection and water remediation technology. In this work, we have investigated the elimination of three common micropollutants such as, ibuprofen, paracetamol and bisphenol A using a photosensitizing material consisting of tris(4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline)ruthenium(II) chloride, immobilized in a porous poly(dimethylsiloxane) inert support. The influence of variables such as, the radiation dose, hydrophobicity, ionization state of the micropollutant and water composition has been discussed.
