Fog computing is a promising approach in the context of the Internet of Things (IoT) as it provides functionality and resources at the edge of the network, closer to end users. This thesis studies the performance of fog computing in the context of latency sensitive IoT applications. The first issue addressed is the mathematical modeling of an IoT-fogcloud system, and the performance metrics of the system in terms of energy consumed and latency. This modeling will then allow us to propose various effective strategies for content distribution and resource allocation in the fog and the cloud.
