National audiencePrediction of failure mechanisms in wood assemblies represents an important challenge and goal for the furniture industry. As part of a collaboration between MSME laboratory and FCBA Technological Institute, a mode of degradation by cracking has been identified during standard furniture validation tests. A series of compression tests using an embedded nut was carried out on spruce wood specimens in order to measure the critical failure force and to predict the strength of a connection between furniture elements [1].
