Alors que la tradition classique, en cherchant à préserver l’intégrité des sources grecques et latines, a tendance à sacraliser les œuvres en version originale, allier philologie et traductologie élargit la recherche et l’enseignement en lettres classiques. Intégrer la théorie et la pratique de la traduction permet, d’une part, de renouveler les approches traditionnelles et, d’autre part, de faire dialoguer le milieu scientifique des spécialistes avec le grand public qui ne connaît l’Antiquité qu’à travers des versions traduites. Les textes antiques deviennent des œuvres classiques par un processus de translatio culturelle qui les fait survivre.
