Kako bi se pokazalo da u nekim situacijama za skladištenje CO2 u duboki slani akvifer nije neophodno postojanje zamke, izrađen je tipski model utiskivanja CO2 u horizontalni, lateralno neograničeni sloj bez zamke. Rađena je analiza osjetljivosti promjenom dubine, te propusnosti, a u rezultatima su promatrane brzine lateralnog širenja. Iz velikog broja simuliranih slučajeva (preko 50), ustanovljene su analitičke ovisnosti – u svakom slučaju je odnos vremena i maksimalnog radijusa širenja od bušotine opisiv logaritamskom funkcijom.
