Alexithymia (“no words for feelings”), a transdiagnostic risk factor for various psychiatric disorders, is characterized by an impaired ability of emotion processing and regulation. Difficulties in emotion processing are at the core of alexithymia, which are mediated by altered neural correlates and dynamics.
