With the increase of multilingual learners in European schools, foreignlanguage teaching is facing several challenges. Schools and teachers needto update their understanding of languages but often do not know howto handle this in practice. While some research on holistic approaches forprimary education has been carried out, secondary schools remainunder-explored. This chapter presents a project for multilingual secondaryeducation in the province of Fryslân in the Netherlands aimed atfi lling this gap. In this project, activities for multilingual teaching weredeveloped and implemented in three schools, based on a holistic modelfor multilingualism in education
