Die vorliegende Arbeit präsentiert neue Erkenntnisse über die Böschungssicherung mit Sandsäcken bei der Verteidigung von Altdeichen. Altdeiche mit sandigem Bodenaufbau, ungünstigen Abmessungen sowie lückenhafter Grasnarbe können das auflaufende Hochwasser häufig nicht sicher wehren und sind bei fehlenden Deichverteidigungswegen nur mit erheblichem Aufwand zu verteidigen. Aus der Schadenanalyse ist zu entnehmen, dass die binnenseitige Böschung bei sandigen Altdeichen hinsichtlich der Standsicherheit besonders gefährdet ist. Aus der Praxis ist daher eine Vielzahl von Anleitungen zur Deichverteidigung entstanden.
