The myelin associated protein Nogo-A has been shown to limit functional and structural recovery after an injury in the adult central nervous system (CNS) and has recently been implicated as a suppressor of activity-dependent synaptic plasticity. I analysed whether Nogo-A signalling modulates the spine actin cytoskeleton to control structural plasticity at dendritic spines of CA3 hippocampal pyramidal cells. Interfering with Nogo-A signalling by loss-of-function experiments rapidly and transiently increased F-actin stability and resulted in an increase in dendritic spine length.
