The plastic collapse limit and the shakedown limit are important limit states in modern ultimate limit state design. Due to the high expenses of experimental setups and the time consuming full elastic-plastic cyclic loading analysis, the determination of these limits by means of numerically direct plasticity methods has been of great interest to many designers. Limit and shakedown analysis solve the plasticity problems by mathematical programming.
