Case study to the inventory of plants of a defined street quarter in Braunschweig (Germany)

The plant diversity of the vascular plants in a small densely settled street quater in one of the Wilhelmine quarters of Braunschweig was investigated over 5 years. It covered front yards, patios as well as the spontaneous flora. A high phytodiversity of 349 taxa (mostly in species rank) has been found within an area of 1,34 ha which is sealed or build on by up to 2/3. The spontaneous ones are 208, cultivated ones are 141. The most important micro habitats of the street quater are front yards and tree slices, whereas the species turn over of the tree slices is remarkable. The reasons for this turn over are occasional weed control, import of new substrates as well as good establishing possibilities
