Profilins are actin-binding proteins and influence actin dynamics via their binding. In the central nervous system, neuronal transmission depends on cell morphology. Therefore, profilins are of high importance in neurons. The two isoforms of profilin are relevant for cellular functions and are therefore closely related to synaptic plasticity and processes such as learning and memory formatiozn.
