Strategies For Promoting Positive Behavior and Increased Student Motivation in the Classroom

Abstract Effective strategies for positive classroom management and the promotion of student motivation have been the subject of educational research for many years. Educators continually research and test out strategies to find what works best with their students. In this research paper, the author reviews the need for classroom management strategies and the history that has led to the presented strategies and teaching models that support and teach positive classroom behaviors and promote student engagement within the learning environment. Positive behavior support programs introduced in this research paper include CHAMPS and Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS). The author also discusses positive reinforcement methods and non-traditional instructional models that help increase student motivation and build life-long learning and positive behavioral skills within students. These strategies have been identified as techniques that promote positive student behavior and motivation while increasing opportunities for academic, emotional, and social development within the classroom and any learning environment. Lastly, the author identifies key attributes of effective teachers that are needed to support student behavior, motivation, and academic achievement.
