A recent review paper of leadership (Avolio, Walumbwa, & Weber, 2009) formulates ethical leadership as the "demonstration of normatively appropriate conduct through personal actions and interpersonal relationships, and the promotion of such conduct to followers" (page 424). In line with this definition, emerging research suggest that ethical leaders are characterized as honest, caring, and principled individuals who make fair and balanced decisions (Brown & Trevi\uf1o, 2006).
