The record high numbers of English language learners in California and schools around the nation continue to grow. These students are at a disadvantage as they are expected to meet the same literacy standards as their native English speaking peers. Educators are challenged with ensuring these students have access to the curriculum and working toward closing the achievement gap. Lack of time, training and resources for teachers can be a hindrance in the process of these students reaching proficiency.
