Allison Joseph was born in London, England in 1967 to parents of Caribbean heritage. She was raised in Toronto, Canada, and the Bronx, New York and she holds degrees from Kenyon College and from Indiana University. Her first book What Keeps Us Here, was the winner of Ampersand Press’ 1992 Women Poets Series Competition. It also received the John C. Zacharis First Book Award from Ploughshares and Emerson College in Boston. She lives in Little Rock, Arkansas and is an Assistant Professor of English at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock
