This project is an anthropological exploration of tattoo artwork. It deals with topics related to what tattoos mean to the artists who create them, and why people get tattoos in the first place. Through a combination of the analysis of already existing literature and the observations and data collected for this project it will explore deeper meanings behind a controversial art form. Specifically, the source material for this project is from, or related to, the tattoo culture of Chicago Illinois. It also seeks to highlight the voices, art, and experiences of tattoo artists who are members of marginalized communities such as BIPOC, female and LGBT peoples
