In this paper a sliding mode control scheme is proposed for a SRM speed drive. Taking advantage of the robustness of the sliding mode solution, the control is designed on the basis of a simplified modelisation of the magnetic characteristic of the motor. Drive performances are tested by simulation and they result superior to those of a conventional control
